Ginkgo Pagoda Earrings

by Ramona Brummett

These exotic little fall-toned earrings mimic the classic pagoda shape and feature sweet and swinging little ginkgo leaf charms. Swarovski crystal bicones in subtle metallic shades are combined with warm copper TierraCast findings that come to life with that pop of natural orange color from the faceted carnelian agate beads. The earrings dangle from hypoallergenic niobium copper earwires.

The ginkgo tree is a symbol of endurance, strength, longevity, hope, resilience and peace. The tree's delicate fan-shaped leaves have been prized for their beauty, copied by artists and heralded in literature over the ages. The ginkgo is the national tree of its native China and has also come to be used as a symbol of Japan.

Pagodas are tiered towers built in the traditions originating in historic East Asia. A religious building of the Far East, a pagoda is erected as a memorial or shrine.

step 1
step 1
Add an oval jumpring on to a ginkgo leaf charm. Fold one of the 6-inch copper wire sections in half and add the ginkgo leaf charm to the middle. On each side of the ginkgo leaf on each half of your wire add one 4mm golden shadow bicone, one daisy spacer and one crystal copper bicone. Put each wire through one hole of the double-drilled carnelian bead. Now, add on to each half of your wire one daisy spacer bead and on 3mm golden shadow bicone.
step 2
step 2
Make sure all of the beads are nice and taut and evenly lined up. Now, cross your top wires, so they are nice and tight.
step 3
step 3
You are now going to do a very small wire twist - only about 1 1/2 coils around and as close to the top of the beads as possible.

Watch our wire twisted loop video for a how-to demonstration by our beading expert.
step 4
step 4
Add one beaded bead cap and one 2mm round copper bead to your wire.
step 5
step 5
Complete another wire twist on top of the copper bead. Trim any excess wires.
step 6
step 6
Open the shepherd hook earwire loop to the side, slip the earring on and close the loop.

Repeat all steps to create the matching earring. Your earrings are ready to wear.
