Woodland Walkway Necklace

by Megan Piper

The inspiration for this gemstone necklace kit comes from whimsical walks in the woods, enjoying those pretty red forest flowers and the many shades of moss in the Pacific Northwest. Created with dragon blood jasper nugget beads and brown Greek leather, this necklace has a lovely rustic color scheme. Some sparkle and shine is added with Swarovski garnet crystals and light green pearls. The finished necklace has a natural feel with a hint of bling - a lovely piece for the woman who loves natural tones with just a touch of sparkle. The finished length measures 20 inches.

You will need either Hypo Cement or clear nail polish, which is not included in the kit.

step 1
step 1
String beads on to your Soft Flex wire in this pattern: one dragon blood jasper bead, one seed bead, one pearl, one seed bead, one jasper bead, one seed bead, one garnet bicone, one seed bead, one dragon blood jasper bead and one seed bead. Repeat this pattern until all of the beads are strung on to your cable.

Notice that you begin and end with just a dragon blood jasper bead - no seed bead - so that the last bead has a big enough hole to feed your cable back through.
step 2
step 2
At one end of the cable, string a crimp and 12 seed beads on to your cable. Create a loop with the seed beads by bringing the cable through the crimp bead and end dragon blood jasper bead. Crimp the crimp. Use your pliers to gently cover the crimp bead with a crimp cover. Trim away any extra cable.

For how-to instructions, watch our crimp bead and crimp cover tutorial videos.
step 3
step 3
Put a piece of leather through the seed bead loop and fold in half, then create an overhand knot at the base. Smooth out the leather and trim any uneven parts at the ends.
step 4
step 4
Attach a cord end on the ends of the leather with glue or clear nail polish and crimp the cord end with your pliers. Attach the ring portion of your toggle clasp with a jumpring.

For how-to instructions, watch our cord ends & clasp tutorial video.

TIP - Use two pairs of flat nose pliers to open and close jumprings properly.
step 5
step 5
Repeat steps 2 - 4 at the other end of your necklace, except you'll attach the bar portion of your toggle clasp in step 4 this time.

You're done!
